Harvest has begun for the 2011 season! Our first white grapes (Chardonel, Seyval and Vignoles) are fermenting merrily, and the first red variety (Chancellor) arrived on Monday, Sept. 5. More grapes will be ready in the next week or two. If you are interested in seeing or helping with the crush process, please let us know (John 319-330-7718 or Ilene 319-330-2541).

Our wine cellar is a great place to come watch the Hawkeye football games at The Brick. The big TV in the cellar is ready and it is a great place to cheer and enjoy the game, whatever the weather. We’ll be open at 10:30 am for the 11:00 kickoff. As the weather gets colder, we can huddle close to the fireplace and be glad we are not freezing at Kinnick! We just enjoyed the Iowa/Iowa State game, a squeaker that didn’t end until the 3rd overtime.

We will have live music from Flannel ( a local bluegrass band including Scott Cochran) this Sunday afternoon from 2-4pm. The tasting room will be open until 5:00pm.

For the duration of the wine making season, we will be closed on Tuesday afternoons. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please call Ilene at 319-330-2541 or Bonnie at 563-271-7960 to set up an appointment or with any questions.

September 18 – Good things happening at The Brick

On Sept. 18, we will have two special events going on at the winery. The Eastern Iowa Culinary Ride will be counting Brick Arch Winery among their stops. Local chefs will be a various locations preparing food from local sources on rides of either 20 or 55 miles. Stop at our most local winery to taste wines and listen to the music (see below). See for more information.

Also on Sept. 18, note a schedule change: Kevin “B.F.”Burt will be performing here from 1-3 pm instead of the usual 2-4 pm. Be here early!!
AND Chase Garrett will be performing here from 3:00-4:30 pm. Check out his unique boogie woogie/blues/honky tonk piano. See for a whole list of YouTube videos. Coming soon: meet Chase behind the bar as he joins the staff at The Brick as well.

Women Who Wine, Sept. 21

Make your plans now to join us from 6-9 pm for Women Who Wine, as always completely open to everyone, including Men Who Grumble. This week we will have a jewelry trunk show from Stella and Dot for you to peruse, enjoy, and possibly find the perfect gift for someone (including yourself).

Job opportunities at The Brick

We are looking for people to help at The Brick in the tasting room and/or at the winery. We’d like to expand our tasting room hours on the weekends, esp. Friday and Saturday evenings. Tasting room duties include helping with tastings, serving and selling wine, beer and food, and all aspects of cleanup (because even here, a lot of wine work is sanitation). We can use help during weekdays, or on weekend days or evenings (or both). In the winery, we will need help with crush (processing fresh grapes and pressing fermented wine), bottling, and occasionally, other “cellar rat” jobs. Most of the bottling is done on Saturdays, but crush jobs and other wine work can happen any day of the week. If you have a few hours a week, or the odd weekend to share, please let us know. Pick up an application and become a part of the Brick Arch experience!
